Collection: Interview with LOTTA LUDWIGSON
How did your idea to found Lotta Ludwigson come up?
It all actually started a few years ago in Scandinavia. Charlotte was living in Copenhagen at the time and was studying the circular economy, circular design and circular business models in the textile industry in depth, both at university and at work. Even when she later moved to Berlin and worked in a corporate company builder (where she also met Nhu-Ha), she watched from the sidelines as the sustainable fashion industry developed. She was shocked to discover that even over several years, the sustainable transformation of the fashion industry was progressing far too slowly. When she was then looking for a pantsuit that would meet all of her holistic sustainability criteria, she realized that there was nothing like it on the market. Out of her own frustration and with the motivation to show that a completely plastic-free and bio-circular pantsuit can work, the idea for LOTTA LUDWIGSON was born. Shortly afterwards, friend, ex-work colleague and now co-founder Nhu-Ha joined. Since then, Charlotte and Nhu-Ha have been building LOTTA LUDWIGSON together with a lot of passion and a clear vision: to make circularity the norm and thus stand up for a fairer and more sustainable fashion industry.
What was your motivation back then?
With LOTTA LUDWIGSON we want to show that aesthetics and sustainability are no longer mutually exclusive. We want to enable women to feel confident in their working lives with the right clothes and to carry their values. In addition, with our holistic sustainability approach we want to show that fashion can also be designed differently, namely circularly. For us, this means that we only use biodegradable natural materials and components without plastic and toxic chemicals and design them according to the cradle-to-cradle design philosophy so that at some point, when they are no longer used, they will return to the biological cycle as a resource for nature. In this way, we not only reduce the use of resources, but also actively prevent textile waste. In addition, we pay attention to fair working conditions, women-led or family-run factories within the EU and donate a portion of every product sold to initiatives that work for more equality and equal opportunities for girls and women. We also want to raise awareness about the current problems in the fashion industry and show how we can all do better together.
In summary, our basic motivation is to provide a valuable
ecological, social and societal contribution that goes beyond the garment per se.
Which fashion quotes or style icons have inspired you?
Suits for women are not just a piece of clothing, but a statement. They show that women have no limits in fashion and in life. (Victoria Beckham)
Buy less. Choose well. Make it last (Vivienne Westwood)
What message you want to share with your fashion?
Our sustainable and circular suits are more than just a piece of fabric - they are an expression of the self-confidence and strength that lies dormant in every woman. We want to inspire women to courageously pursue their goals, to reach for the stars, to become visible and to confidently live their own strengths in every area of life. Our pantsuits are a promise and a reminder that all women have the power to change the world positively, step by step. We invite you to become part of this movement.
